Walter Andrew Varner, 74, of 2900 Reidville Rd. Apt. 604, Spartanburg, SC entered eternal rest Thursday morning, May 17, 2018 in Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. A native of Spartanburg County, SC, he was the son of the late Andrew Varner and Mary Frances Robinson Watkins and Lucille Varner of Spartanburg, SC. He was a member and trustee of Friendship Baptist. He served in a number of capacities at the church including chairman of the building committee.He was a 1962 graduate of Fosters Grove High and was retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad. He served as associate of Barrow-Glenn Funeral Home, the Michael A. Glenn Funeral Home, and Community Mortuary of Spartanburg and Union. He is survived by one son, Terrek (Keisha) McNally of Greenville, SC; one daughter, Tylisha (Faron) Jackson of Spartanburg, SC; four grand children, Fataira Jackson and Makyah Brewton both of Spartanburg, SC and Miles Jones and Mason McNally both of Simpsonville, SC; three brothers, Marvin (Creola) Shells of Spartanburg, SC, Minister Melvin (Marilyn) Varner of Boiling Springs, SC, and Jessie Varner of Spartanburg, SC; two sisters, Priscilla Varner of Decatur, AL and Patricia Varner of Spartanburg, SC; a devoted and loving companion, Frances DeLois Gist; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 21, 2018 at Friendship Baptist Church of Spartanburg. Burial will follow in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Sunday, May 20, 2018 at Friendship Baptist Church and at other times at the home and at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Tylisha and Faron Jackson, 114 Brandywine Lane, Spartanburg, SC.
