Alma Marie Gist Jones, 92, of 310 Calhoun Street, Union, SC entered eternal rest Wednesday afternoon, April 24, 2019 in Spartanburg Medical Center.  A native of Wierton, WV, she was the widow of Anthony Thomas "Tut" Jones, Sr. and daughter of the late William Gist and Etta Thelma Jennings Gist.  She was a longtime and faithful member of Saint Paul Baptist Church where she served in many capacities. She traveled extensively, home and abroad, supporting the work of the church on the local, state, and national levels. She was the oldest living member of the Willing Workers Club, coordinator of the Children’s Church, Second Sunday Worship Leader, Junior Missionary Advisor, and Vice President of the Missionary Society.  She initiated the Community Christmas Caroling Ministry and the Community Candlelight Worship Service. She was former Sunday School Superintendent, Vacation Bible School Director, Presidents’ Club member, and Senior Choir member. She served the Pacolet River Baptist Association as Second Vice President of the Woman's Missionary Auxiliary and one of the Junior Missionary Advisors.  She was a lifetime member of the Woman's Baptist E & M Convention of SC and served as chairwoman of the committee.  She served as Field Missionary and Information Director for the SC Baptist Congress of Christian Education.   She was a regional coordinator of the SC Baptist Youth Convention and youth supervisor for Morris College's Camp Julia A, Starks/Dunbar-Gandy Retreat. She attended and graduated for the Progressive National Baptist Congress of Christian Education.  She first retired from Union County Public Schools as a dietitian. She later worked for the Head Start Program for Carolina Community Actions.  In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, William Gist, one sister, Thelma Fuller, a grandson, A. Quinton Tele', and son-in-law, Robin L. Lucas.  She is survived by two sons, Anthony Thomas Jones, Jr. and Adolphus Ray Jones both of Union, SC; two daughters, Andrena D. Jones-Sharp of Shaker Heights, OH and Rita M. Jones Lucas of Union, SC; four grandchildren, Willie J. Rice, Lucretia (Derrick) Green, A’mericia Shanuale Jones, and James A. (Rhian) Sharp, IV; eleven great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 11:00 Thursday, May 2, 2019 at Saint Paul Baptist Church.  Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, 316 Calhoun Street, Union, SC.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Community Mortuary, 361 Meansville Road, Union, SC.
