Mrs. Willie Florence Sartor Smith peacefully entered eternal rest on Thursday morning, May 14, 2009 in the Ellen Sagar Nursing Home. A native of Union County, she was the widow of Mr. John Redmond and the daughter of the late Mr. J. C. Sartor and the late Mrs. Ora Comer Sartor.  In 1941 Mrs. Smith left South Carolina and made her home in Detroit, MI.  Upon leaving Detroit after several years, she then made her home in Chicago, IL where she worked as a seamstress until the age of retirement.  She returned to Carlisle, SC in the mid-eighties.  Mrs. Smith, energetic, comical and most importantly very caring, enjoyed life to its fullest.  She opened her heart and her home to welcome everyone.  She loved being in the presence of others and singing her favorite song, “Run Mary, Run.”  She expressed her love to everyone she met and always encouraged them to take good care of themselves.  She was a member of the former Mt. Eden AME Church and often attended the worship services at Thomas Chapel AME Church when her health would permit.  Left to mourn her passing is one son, Mr. Obie (Mary Frances) Sartor of Carlisle, SC; one daughter, Mrs. Mary O. Sanders of South Bend, IN; one sister, Mrs. Ethel Powell of Pasadena, MD; four grandchildren, Mrs. Willie Mae Younger of Spartanburg, SC, Ms. Diane Cheek of South Bend, IN, Mrs. Debbie (Kenneth) Smith and Ms. Jannie Gist, both of Union, SC; eighteen great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; a devoted niece, Mrs. Corrine Sims of Santuc, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving relatives and friends.  Mrs. Smith was predeceased by two grandsons, Mr. Bruce Cheek and Mr. Herman Louis Sartor, Sr. and twelve siblings.
