Regina "Geet" "Pook" Peterson Obituary

Regina Latrell Peterson (Young), affectionately known as “Pook”, “Geet” a beloved mother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend was born on November 24, 1969 at Englewood Hospital in Englewood, New Jersey. She was the cherished daughter of the late Gladys Clay (Young ) and the late Charles Hennon Clay.

Raised in Englewood, NJ, Regina was educated in the Englewood Public School System and proudly graduated from Dwight Morrow High School in 1987. At a young age, she was baptized and became a devoted member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Englewood, New Jersey where she worshipped faithfully until relocating to North Carolina. Her faith remained a steady and guiding foundation throughout her life.

Regina entered into marriage and shared 30 years of union from which she was blessed with two sons who became the pride and joy of her life. She was a devoted and loving mother who poured her heart into raising her children with strength, humor and unconditional love.

Professionally, Regina built a respected career in retail management. She served as a Manager at Lew Magram Clothing in Teaneck, NJ for 10 years, where her leadership and customer first spirit left a lasting impression. She later continued her career as Store Manager at Rite Aid in Englewood, NJ dedicating 16 years of service until her health significantly declined. Regina was known not only for her strong work ethic, but also for her generosity treating coworkers and customers like family and extending kindness whenever someone was in need.

Regina’s personality lit up every room she entered. She was fun, loving, warm and quick with laughter. Her vibrant sense of humor (like her mothers) and her genuine spirit were adored by family, friends, colleagues and all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was also a gifted cook who took great joy in preparing meals for her family and friends. Her kitchen was a place of comfort and connection, where she expressed her love through flavors that brought everyone together.

In her later years, Regina faced a major and progressive decline in health and her character shone brightest. Despite the challenges she remained resilient and determined, never surrendering her will to fight. She courageously battled to regain her strength demonstrating unwavering perseverance until the very end.

Regina leaves to cherish her memory: two loving sons, Tyrell Peterson of Englewood, New Jersey, and Tyree Peterson of South Carolina; two brothers, Corey Clay of Englewood, New Jersey and Darius Clay of South Carolina; her devoted aunt and caregiver, Fannie Jackson of South Carolina; a special cousin, Shenita Straughn; special friends Toni Stancil, Elaine Rogers Thornhill and Teresa Smith; Special brother in law Cory “Wheat” Peterson and a host of cousins, extended family members and friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.

Regina Latrell Young Peterson’s legacy is one of faith, love, resilience and generosity. Her laughter will echo in the memories of those she touched and her spirit will remain a guiding light to her family and all who were blessed to know her.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
